Join us for one of Mountain Shadows International Montessori School’s most cherished traditions: International Peace Day.

Peace education is deeply rooted in Montessori philosophy. Each year, our entire community comes together to celebrate peace, belonging, global citizenship, and our shared responsibility to care for one another and our world.

Throughout the weeks leading up to Peace Day, children will explore these ideas through music, art, classroom conversations, stories, and collaborative work, culminating in a joyful all-school celebration on September 18.

What to Expect

Families are invited to join us on the field near the hill for our all-school Peace Day celebration

Wear your MSIMS Peace Day tie-dye shirt and come ready to celebrate!

Giant Human Peace Sign

One of our favorite Mountain Shadows traditions! Children, families, faculty, staff, and guests will come together on the field to form a giant human peace sign.

Everyone is part of the picture, so we encourage the whole family to join the formation.

Community Peace Songs

Our entire school community will sing together:

• Light a Candle for Peace

• Siento Paz Como un Río (Peace Like a River)

Families are encouraged to learn and practice the songs at home so you can sing along with us!

Student Performances & Presentations

Children from across our programs will share age-appropriate music, art, poetry, presentations, and other work inspired by peace.

Our youngest children through our Adolescent students will each contribute to the celebration in their own way. The goal is not a perfect performance, but the joyful celebration of children’s voices, confidence, creativity, and connection.

Keep the Celebration Going at Junkyard Social!

After Peace Day on Campus | Junkyard Social, Boulder 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Peace Day doesn’t have to end when we leave campus!

Following our school celebration, MSIMS families and friends are invited to head to Junkyard Social in Boulder for an informal community gathering and FUNdraiser.

Children can play, adults can relax and connect, and families can purchase food and drinks while spending the afternoon together.

Even Better: Your Visit Supports MSIMS!

Junkyard Social will contribute 50% back to Mountain Shadows from our community gathering.

Bring the children, invite friends and family, and keep those tie-dye Peace Day shirts on! It is the perfect way to extend our celebration beyond campus while supporting our school.

A Celebration of Peace—and a Practice of Peace

At Mountain Shadows, Peace Day is much more than an annual event.

Children learn that peace is something we actively create through Grace and Courtesy, kindness, dignity, respect, service, care for our environment, and responsibility to one another.

On September 18, we simply make that everyday work visible.

Children witness adults working together.
Families experience the beauty of belonging.
Students discover that their voices matter.

Celebrate the season with Mountain Shadows at our annual Fall Festival! It's a day of fun and community for the whole school. We're gathering at the beautiful Anderson Farms for a morning packed with classic autumn activities. It's the perfect way to make family memories and welcome the season.

Event Highlights Include:

• Anderson Farm Favorites: Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze, and a Petting Zoo!

• Family Fun: Wagon Rides, Jump Pads, Gem Mining, Pony Rides, and Escape Rooms.

• Getting Creative: Face Painting and a fun photobooth!

• For the Foodies: Grab a bite from a variety of Local Vendors.

• Entertainment: Enjoy Live Music and watch the exciting Pumpkin Launching!

Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon on Friday, October 30th, starting at 2:00 p.m!

Watch our students show off their creative costumes in a delightful school-wide parade, bring your favorite creepy treats, and enjoy some ghostly fun at our community Monster Mash!

Celebrate the joy, potential, and rights of children everywhere with this special tentative event dedicated to our youngest global citizens on Thursday, November 19th, at 2:00 p.m.

On Friday, November 20th, during student lunch times, we warmly invite grandparents and special family friends to share a wonderful mealtime experience with their students.

In this fun workshop led by our Primary staff, children will explore simple decorating techniques to create festive cookie creations with colorful icing, fun toppings, and plenty of imagination. Along the way, they will explore colors, patterns, textures, and creative expression in a playful and supportive environment guided by the nurturing adults they know and love.

This experience is designed to create cozy holiday memories and joyful moments for everybody— we haven't left out the grown-ups! While the little ones decorate their treats we will be putting the finishing touches on our van for the Lights of December parade as a community. 

Expect iconic wintry tunes, nostalgic fun, laughter with friends, and adorable photo opportunities that families will treasure long after the cookies are gone.

Bundle up and join our school community in downtown Boulder on Saturday, December 12th, at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the magic of the season with sparkling floats and holiday cheer.

Ring in the winter season on Friday, December 18th, with a beautiful musical performance by our students before we head off for winter break. To make the show even sweeter, we’ll be hosting our annual cookie exchange!

Let's celebrate our beautiful planet on Thursday, April 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. Join the entire school for this annual event as we honor environmental stewardship and our connection to nature.

Bring a blanket and your favorite picnic snacks on Friday, May 14th, as we celebrate the diverse and wonderful families that make our school community so special!
