Mountain Shadows International Montessori School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We pride ourselves on being a community school, governed by a dedicated Board of Directors who work closely with the Head of School.

Katherine Horne
Katherine’s two children’s five years of MSIMS Primary and Elementary education gave them a solid foundation for their future pathways in academics and extracurricular activities. She joined the Board in 2024 and is currently serving as Board Chair. Katherine is excited to contribute to the school and community for future generations of students.

Scott Dooley
Scott feels privileged to have served on the Mountain Shadows Board for several years and currently serves in a Board Emeritus role. His daughter attended Mountain Shadows from ages 4 to 12, and he and his wife continue to see the lasting benefits of her Montessori education as she charts her path as a young adult.

Susie Hochstetler
Susie’s son attends Mountain Shadows, and she is a strong believer in AMI Montessori education. She serves as the CFO for her family’s hotel business in Estes Park and brings a passion for numbers and financial stewardship to her work. Susie joined the Mountain Shadows Board in August 2023 and currently serves as Treasurer.

Jason Buster
Jason attended Mountain Shadows from age 3 to 12, where his curiosity and love of learning was fostered by the school. This self-guided approach served him well as he studied engineering physics at the Colorado School of Mines, before finding himself in the San Francisco Bay Area at different tech companies, including Upstart and Apple. Joining the Mountain Shadows Board in 2025, Jason’s excited to support the school and community that helped lay the foundation of his lifelong explorations, both personally and professionally.

Ali Carpenter Barrazotto
Ali joined the board in 2025 and is a passionate advocate for the school's mission. She has a direct connection to the community as the parent of a student in the Young Children's Community (YCC) program, having already witnessed the immense growth her son has achieved. Ali is a strong believer in the lasting benefits of a Montessori education and looks forward to supporting the school’s continued success.

Carol McConica
Carol spent her career educating youth and advancing science, teaching at the Boulder Thorne Natural Science School, Colorado Outward Bound School, and for 20 years as a chemical engineering professor at Colorado State University after earning her PhD at Stanford. She also worked for a decade at Hewlett Packard developing integrated circuit manufacturing technologies. Since retiring in 2008, Carol has focused on hands-on, visual learning experiences that help elementary students understand natural and molecular processes. She is a strong advocate for Montessori education and its emphasis on mastery, self-efficacy, and experiential learning.
