Join us for one of Mountain Shadows International Montessori School’s most cherished traditions: International Peace Day.
Peace education is deeply rooted in Montessori philosophy. Each year, our entire community comes together to celebrate peace, belonging, global citizenship, and our shared responsibility to care for one another and our world.
Throughout the weeks leading up to Peace Day, children will explore these ideas through music, art, classroom conversations, stories, and collaborative work, culminating in a joyful all-school celebration on September 18.

What to Expect

Families are invited to join us on the field near the hill for our all-school Peace Day celebration
Wear your MSIMS Peace Day tie-dye shirt and come ready to celebrate!
Giant Human Peace Sign
One of our favorite Mountain Shadows traditions! Children, families, faculty, staff, and guests will come together on the field to form a giant human peace sign.
Everyone is part of the picture, so we encourage the whole family to join the formation.
Community Peace Songs
Our entire school community will sing together:
Light a Candle for Peace
Siento Paz Como un Río (Peace Like a River)
Families are encouraged to learn and practice the songs at home so you can sing along with us!
Student Performances & Presentations
Children from across our programs will share age-appropriate music, art, poetry, presentations, and other work inspired by peace.
Our youngest children through our Adolescent students will each contribute to the celebration in their own way. The goal is not a perfect performance, but the joyful celebration of children’s voices, confidence, creativity, and connection.

Keep the Celebration Going at Junkyard Social!
After Peace Day on Campus | Junkyard Social, Boulder 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Peace Day doesn’t have to end when we leave campus!
Following our school celebration, MSIMS families and friends are invited to head to Junkyard Social in Boulder for an informal community gathering and FUNdraiser.
Children can play, adults can relax and connect, and families can purchase food and drinks while spending the afternoon together.
Even Better: Your Visit Supports MSIMS!
Junkyard Social will contribute 50% back to Mountain Shadows from our community gathering.
Bring the children, invite friends and family, and keep those tie-dye Peace Day shirts on! It is the perfect way to extend our celebration beyond campus while supporting our school.

A Celebration of Peace—and a Practice of Peace
At Mountain Shadows, Peace Day is much more than an annual event.
Children learn that peace is something we actively create through Grace and Courtesy, kindness, dignity, respect, service, care for our environment, and responsibility to one another.
On September 18, we simply make that everyday work visible.
Children witness adults working together.
Families experience the beauty of belonging.
Students discover that their voices matter.
