Lauren Franchek

Head of School

Serving Mountain Shadows since 2023

Originally from Alberta, Canada, Lauren found a home in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert before being called to the Rocky Mountains, relocating to Boulder in 2023 to join the Mountain Shadows community.

With nearly two decades in Montessori education, her experience spans both teaching and leadership roles within independent school settings. This includes several years in the classroom, as well as serving as a Primary Level Coordinator, Director of Education and Marketing, and Assistant Head of School, supporting children from infancy through high school.

She holds AMI diplomas from the Southwest Institute of Montessori Studies at the Primary level, with orientation to Elementary and Assistants to Infancy, along with an AMI Administrative Diploma. She has also completed studies in Inclusive Education through the Montessori Institute of San Diego and the University of San Diego, as well as Master Educational Leadership training through the Whole School Leadership Institute at Loyola University Maryland.

Deeply committed to Montessori pedagogy, Lauren strives to provide an authentic whole-child approach to education while supporting teacher development and strong school communities. Her work has included consulting with Montessori practitioners and school teams around the world, visiting numerous schools and training centers, and contributing to global professional networks.

For 10 years, she founded and chaired Arizona’s AMI Alumni Association, a non-profit organization. Additional involvement includes volunteering at AMI and NAMTA events and refresher courses, and currently serving the Colorado Montessori Association as a member of the advocacy committee.

Outside of work, you can often find her enjoying the simple pleasures of life outdoors, hiking, capturing the beauty of Colorado’s wilderness through her camera lens, and spending time with her Golden Retriever, Niko. A passionate reader, she enjoys both fiction and books on child development and organizational psychology. Travel remains a central passion, with a love for exploring diverse cultures, art, cuisine, and awe-inspiring landscapes.
