AGES THREE TO SIX

Welcome to the Children's House at Mountain Shadows, where our Montessori Primary program offers a nurturing and dynamic environment for children aged 3 to 6 years. Inspired by Maria Montessori's vision, our Children's House fosters a love for learning through hands-on exploration, individualized instruction, and a deep respect for each child's unique developmental journey. We offer bilingual (English/Spanish) programs to further enrich the learning experience, providing a culturally diverse and immersive educational setting where children can develop understanding of both languages. Join us as we guide your child through this transformative stage of growth and discovery in a warm and supportive educational community.

The Child’s Community

  • In our AMI Montessori Primary program, we meticulously craft a prepared environment that is thoughtfully designed to nurture each child's natural curiosity and love for learning. Our classrooms feature large windows that invite natural light, creating a warm atmosphere that inspires exploration and discovery. Using carefully selected natural materials and scientifically precise Montessori materials, our learning spaces are tailored to encourage independence, concentration, and a deep connection with the surrounding environment. With expansive outdoor spaces integrated into our learning environment, children have ample opportunities to engage in nature-based activities, fostering an enriching educational experience.

  • Our nurturing environment is designed to cultivate a child's innate curiosity, independence, and love for learning. By integrating Maria Montessori's visionary approach and through hands-on learning experiences and personalized guidance, we empower children to become self-motivated, confident, and compassionate individuals, ready to embrace the complexities of the modern world.

Freedom With Boundaries

  • Montessori prioritizes the unique development of each child, nurturing their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social growth. Our carefully curated curriculum is designed to foster independence, promote self-confidence, and encourage a lifelong love for learning through self-guided exploration and freedom of choice within limits. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning experiences, we provide a supportive and engaging environment that enables children to develop critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence, and a strong sense of empathy. Our comprehensive approach to whole child development ensures that every aspect of a child's growth is nurtured, laying a solid foundation for their future success and well-being.

  • Children not only develop intrinsic motivation and confidence but also build competence through a mastery-based learning approach. Our carefully curated curriculum, supported by didactic and sequentially designed materials, allows children to engage in hands-on learning experiences that promote a deep understanding of concepts and encourage skill mastery. Through this deliberate and comprehensive learning process, children develop a strong sense of competence and self-assurance, laying a solid foundation for future academic and personal success.

  • At Mountain Shadows, our AMI-trained Primary teachers play an essential role in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. With their specialized training and deep understanding of the Montessori philosophy, our educators guide and support each child's unique learning journey. They foster a love for exploration, encourage independence, and promote a lifelong love for learning. Through their dedication and expertise, our teachers cultivate a warm and inclusive classroom community, empowering children to reach their full potential and become confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals.

Embedded Learning Experiences

  • We recognize the significance of the uninterrupted 3-hour work cycle in fostering deep concentration and a love for learning. Within this extended period, children engage in a diverse array of activities across various areas, including practical life exercises that promote independence and fine motor skills, sensorial activities that refine the senses and build cognitive awareness, language exploration encompassing reading and writing, mathematics to develop numerical understanding and mathematical operations, music to foster creative expression, history and science to encourage curiosity and critical thinking, and art to stimulate imagination and self-expression. Through this comprehensive approach, children develop a well-rounded foundation, nurturing their intellectual, social, and emotional growth.

  • Dr. Maria Montessori showed us to believe in grounding abstract concepts in tangible, hands-on experiences. Through a carefully curated learning environment and scientifically designed materials, children explore complex ideas through concrete, sensory-rich activities. By engaging with manipulative materials and participating in interactive learning experiences, children develop a deep and meaningful understanding of abstract concepts, fostering a strong foundation for future academic success and critical thinking. This deliberate approach to learning nurtures a lifelong love for exploration and discovery, laying the groundwork for a confident and well-rounded learner.
