Joni's journey began in St. Louis, MO, where she discovered her passion for teaching. Her path led her to Chicago, where she kickstarted her career as an art teacher. Later, Joni's quest for knowledge took her to Santa Cruz, California, where she obtained her Californian elementary teaching credential. Her Montessori adventure began in Maui after earning her AMI diploma, leading her to San Francisco, CA, before finally settling in the vibrant community of Boulder, CO.

Joni's educational background is just as diverse as her teaching experience. She holds a BFA from the University of Missouri, an art teaching credential from Webster University in St. Louis, and a multi-subject K-8 elementary teaching credential from the University of Santa Cruz in California. Additionally, she earned her Elementary AMI Montessori diploma in Kansas City, MO.

A seasoned presenter, Joni has shared her expertise at various AMI teacher training courses across the US and abroad, as well as at prestigious conferences such as NAMTA and AMI-EAA. Most recently, her passion for the natural world led her to acquire naturalist certifications from both California and Colorado.

Transitioning from a conventional educational setting, Joni found her calling in Montessori education. Witnessing the sheer joy and unwavering concentration of the children in a Montessori classroom, she was inspired to delve deeper into Maria Montessori's teachings. Joining Mountain Shadows has allowed Joni to embrace Montessori principles wholeheartedly, a gift she cherishes every day.

Joni's love for teaching remains her guiding light, illuminating her life with endless joy. Her insatiable thirst for knowledge is constantly nourished by the children she teaches. Outside the classroom, Joni indulges her love for travel, exploring diverse cultures, birdwatching, immersing herself in nature, diving into mystery novels, and spending quality time with friends. She also finds solace in artistic expression and the enriching experiences offered by museums.

The child is both a hope and a promise for humankind.
