Join Our Parent Guild!

Every parent and faculty member of Mountain Shadows is a member of the Mountain Shadows Parent Guild. The Parent Guild has two roles:

  • Community Building — Parent Guild sponsors presentations and social activities throughout the school year to give parents a chance to meet each other and interact with the staff in a relaxed setting.

  • Fund Raising — The Parent Guild suports school fund raising efforts each year to enhance the school environment. Working with our Board of Directors, the Guild identifies initiatives that align with the school mission and best support the short- and long-term goals for our school community.

Parent Guild supports the parent and school communities by hosting social activities that allow parents to connect outside of school and during school. Parent Guild volunteers play a key support role in many areas, such as:

  • providing refreshments following school performances.
  • maintaining and strengthening program libraries.
  • participating in campus cleanups and upkeep in the Fall and Spring.

Parent Guild also hosts social events for families, which have included Fall Fest, Ice Skating parties, and an Ice Cream Social. They also host a major social event every other year that serves as a school fundraiser.

Parents Can Volunteer in Other Ways!
Mountain Shadow parents can help in many ways around the school. They can:

  • assist with special class projects, such as helping children prepare crafts or decorations for a special event.
  • help with holiday projects, especially at the Primary level.
  • chaperone field trips.
  • sign up for snack weeks (Primary only).

At the elementary level, we see parent volunteers:

  • Helping with presentation program elements, such as
    • help create set pieces.
    • design and build costumes or props.
    • help children practice their scenes or lines.
  • Serving as guest speakers on specific topics that are relevant to the interests of the class or projects they are working on.

At the beginning of the year, we inventory parents’ interests in volunteering as well as their talents and skills, so that if we need volunteers, we know who to call on. Whether they are reptile specialists or good at sewing, the teachers call on parents as needed for these projects.
