Mountain Shadows Parents: What You Need to Know

Mountain Shadows encourages parents to become actively involved in their children’s education at many levels, in many different ways.

Volunteer Opportunities
Mountain Shadows offers many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year to facilitate your active participation. Parents may volunteer behind the scenes or more directly in classrooms or at school events and fund development activities. When your student sees you involved in the school and actively supporting his or her education, you model community responsibility. Whether you’re bringing snacks for the Primary classes, helping Elementary classes with special projects, managing the upkeep of our program libraries, or supporting our fund development efforts, your children see you interested in their educational success.

Fundraising Activities
Parents also demonstrate the art of giving through participation in our Annual Giving Campaign, classroom fundraisers, and other special school fundraising events. Your involvement teaches your child the value of philanthropy and demonstrates how much you value his or her school. It also supports opportunities beyond the Montessori classroom that broaden your child’s educational experience! Opportunities such as class trips, larger class projects, cultural experiences, and campus enhancements are all funded outside of our operating budget, which is covered by tuition.

Watch Your Child Grow
Our school also provides parents with the opportunity to personally view the academic progress of their students with Parent Visiting Nights, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and classroom presentations. Information on these events and various other school activities is listed in the school calendar; our weekly email communication, Parent Connect; and our monthly newsletter.

Parent Guild (www.msmsparent.org)
Our Parent Guild plays an extremely important role in unifying the school community through a variety of activities. Parent Guild board members and committee volunteers host periodic social and volunteer activities that help families connect with each other, which fortifies our school community. These active parent volunteers also support the school’s fund development activities, such as the Annual Giving Campaign, and host a social fundraiser, the Silent Auction, all of which fund expenses beyond our operating budget.

Mountain Shadows could not function as smoothly and efficiently as it does if it weren’t for our prized parents! We sincerely thank you for your devotion to your children and our school. We’ve gathered information here to make your life easier, so please help yourself:
