The History of Mountain Shadows Montessori School

Mountain Shadows Montessori SchoolMountain Shadows Montessori School of Boulder, Colorado, was founded in 1976 as a private, non-profit school. It has grown from a small classroom of children in a rented church facility to a Primary and Elementary school on a twelve-acre campus located in beautiful rural Boulder County. Today we offer a comprehensive, fully accredited Montessori education of the highest quality to students ages 3 through 12.

Mountain Shadows distinguishes itself as the only Colorado school serving children ages 3-12 that is accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This accreditation is earned by following strict guidelines and principles that ensure consistent adherence to Dr. Maria Montessori’s original pedagogy. For accreditation, all our teachers must be AMI-trained to ensure all students are afforded the purest Montessori education. To maintain our accreditation, Mountain Shadows must pass a rigorous review of every pedagogical practice and an on-site inspection of our campus and classrooms every three years. It is a challenge we are proud to meet to ensure our continued academic excellence.

Our commitment to this AMI accreditation has made Mountain Shadows Colorado’s trusted leader in Montessori education. Come visit us! We think you’ll agree that Mountain Shadows Montessori School is the right school for your child to build a strong educational foundation.
