What to Do When Your Child Is Ill

At Mountain Shadows, we strive to protect and promote our students’ health and a healthy school environment. We have thus carefully developed health policies and guidelines. We provide this information to parents upon enrollment in order to facilitate the healthiest setting in which our children can learn. It covers everything from what to do if your child has a fever, to larger concerns.

If the Boulder area should experience an outbreak of common childhood communicable illnesses (e.g., mumps, measles, chickenpox), we work with the Department of Health and Human Services, our School Nurse consultant, and our parents to maintain a healthy setting for your child’s learning. For more information, enrolled parents may review their parent handbook or call the school at 303-530-5353.

School Nurse Consultant
We have a School Nurse Consultant who is on-call and always available to answer questions and address any medical issues during school hours. She makes a monthly visit to the school to review student medical information, accuracy of school health policy procedures regarding drug and medical administration, and answers any questions we have about a student’s health or societal health matters. She is also a valuable resource who assists our school and staff in helping children deal with diverse allergies.

Staff Training
Our teaching and administrative staff are highly trained in medical administration; First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) administration; Universal Precautions; emergency procedures; and child abuse and neglect identification, prevention, and reporting.

Tiffany, mother of 7- and 4-year old Mountain Shadows Montessori students
“At Mountain Shadows, my kids have developed a deep love of learning. The way they teach there—sensorially and experientially—makes a big difference. My kids make smart choices and are learning to better themselves and empower themselves.
It’s a beautiful thing.”
